These interviews were recorded by students as part of their course work for my Human Communication class in 2020 and 2021, while Fitchburg State classes were largely still remote. Students could choose to record privately or publish to StoryCorps. The interviews below have been shared publicly.


In this storycorps recording, Robert Smalley Sr. recounts his life experience as a jobber in central New England. Coming from a poor family, Bob worked hard his entire life in a variety of professions, often taking great physical and financial risks, to ensure a sound future for his wife and children. November 28th, 2021; Paul and Sharon Santello’s home in Bolton Massachusetts. Participants include Robert Smalley Sr., his grandson Nick Flionis, and his Daughter Carol Smalley- Flionis.

This interview was conducted on December 1st in Lunenburg MA by Kevin Boussom. My mom, Laura Boussom, also had some questions while listening. My Grandpa, Donald Mayer, recounted events from his early days, and his progression to becoming an electrical engineer for the military. He also tells of some of his favorite moments from his life, most notably being his marriage.

Bryan Grasso (21) talks with his father, Joseph Grasso (62) about his life and the many different topics being discussed through these questions being asked.

Robert Kemp interviews his father, Michael Kemp about his life and future. Robert asks about his father’s childhood, his relationships with family, adulthood, fatherhood, and what’s next. In the interview Michael shares familiar stories and some anecdotes Robert was unfamiliar with. The interview concludes having been an intimate chat about life between a father and son.

This interview will discuss the topics of communication, family, identity and much more. I will be interviewing my mother who is an Irish immigrant living in the United States (U.S.). The purpose of this interview is to determine the lifestyle differences between living in NI and the US.

An interview with my father

This interview took place on Wednesday, April 29th in Milton, Massachusetts where I recorded this while my grandmother was in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My grandmother’s name is Kristy Lopez and all of her grandkids call her Wella. She has gray hair, blue eyes and a beautiful smile! My name is Deliciana Montoya and I have brown eyes, brown hair and I like to think I have a beautiful smile just like my grandmother! My grandmother is Austrian and Puerto Rican and she is 65 years old. She was born in Frankfurt, Germany. I am Caucasian and Puerto Rican and I am 21 years old. I was born in Leominster, Massachusetts. I began to ask my grandmother about her life and where/how she grew up and some of her proudest moments. We also talked about how technology has evolved and how it has affected her and even generations to come. Another topic was COVID-19 and how it has affected her life and how it will continue to affect her life even if this were to all blow over. Thank you for tuning in!

Joey Oliveri (21) is interviewing his mother Pamela Oliveri (51) in our home in Peabody, MA. Pam gives motherly insight into what it’s like to be a parent and how her family before me influenced how she is today. She speaks on what it was like to have a strict mother in her life and how she tried to go her own route of parenting to raise her 4 boys she has today. Through thoughtful insight into her family and childhood, she is able to clearly show how her own upbringing as made her the mother she is today.

An interview after Thanksgiving dinner with my Grandmother, Kyle O’Connell, who raised my dad and two uncles as a single mother, then became a Computer Engineering Practice Director. Features my screaming cousins and a mostly clipped out guest appearance from my 4 year old sister.

An interview with Dennis Munroe

Caitlin Corliss (21) in Fitchburg, MA interviews her grandmother Sheryl Corey (67) in Taunton, MA over the computer. Sheryl tells many fun stories about her childhood and teenage years. She discusses growing up with fifteen siblings, her hometown Taunton, and her late husband. Sheryl reveals that she loved going to concerts and was friends with famous band “Aerosmith” while in high school. December 3rd, 2021.

Ryan Gallagher conducts an interview of his father, Brad Gallagher, on thanksgiving in Montville, CT. Topics include the existence and appearance of God, the legacy that one leaves behind, as well as the lessons life teaches us and the challenges of parenthood.

I am interviewing my 49 pear old aunt. She was born and raised in Dominican Republic but has recently moved to the United States. Questions were asked in English, a list of the questions were provided in Spanish.
